Tatawelo Coffee is the brand of coffee sold by the Zapatista autonomous communities of Chiapas. The Mayan indigenous organized in the Good Government Groups have decided to sell their products without an intermediary who often buys what they have grown for very low prices. You can purchase this coffee in cafes in Chiapas and Mexico City (the Federal District).
Since they decided to manage their own coffee two years ago they have been recognized internationally for their totally organic production. As a result it has been distributed as a form of solidarity, to various parts of the world including the United States, Italy, Germany and Spain.
Tatawelo Coffee is an example of just commerce, an honest practice to obtain support to maintain their autonomous projects.
In spite of the problems that have faced the indigenous communities, like the paramilitary bands that ravage the region, as well as a government that marginalizes them, the Zapatistas continue constructing their possible world.

El café Tatawelo es la marca que comercializan comunidades autonomas zapatistas de Chiapas. Los indígenas mayas organizados en las Juntas de Buen Gobierno han decidido comercializar sus productos sin el intermediario que comúnmente compra a muy bajo costo lo que han sembrado los indígenas. Este café se puede conseguir en cafeterias de Chiapas y el Distrito Federal en Mexico.
Desde hace un par de años han decidido gestionar que su café sea reconocido a nivel internacional por su producción totalmente organica, lo que ha permitido que se distribuya de manera solidaria por varias partes del mundo, principalmente Estados Unidos, Italia, Alemania y España asi como de los consumidores locales.
El Café tatawelo es un ejemplo del comercio justo que practican, asi como una practica honesta de conseguir fondos para mantener sus proyectos de autonomia.
A pesar de los problemas que han enfrentado las comunidades indígenas, como las bandas paramilitares que asolan la región, así como un gobierno que los margina ellos, los zapatistas siguen construyendo su mundo posible..
